The law
In all EEC Countries, there are lot of official rules and laws about trailers and towing.
Also, each Country may have its own additional laws.
The law is often complex and we do not intend to relate on this website all official and original texts from each Country.
In order to help you, we try to present the current rules in everyday language.
It is a drivers’ responsibility to ensure that they are correctly licensed and insured to tow a trailer, and that the vehicle used to tow is appropriate for any perticular trailer and load. (Each model of vehicle has a manufacturers recommended maximum towing weight. This maximum weight will be different for a trailer with brakes and a trailer without brakes).
